The "Twelfth Five-Year Development Plan for the Iron and Steel Industry" (hereinafter referred to as the "Plan") officially released and implemented a few days ago regards improving the quality of steel products as one of the main goals of the development of the iron and steel industry during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period. Steel plates put forward clear goals, which attracted great attention from steel companies and steel traders, and explored and studied the future development trend of the domestic high-strength steel plate market and the plate in 2012 market.

Steel plates put forward clear goals, which attracted great attention from steel companies and steel traders, and explored and studied the future development trend of the domestic high-strength steel plate market and the plate in 2012 market.
The "Plan" pointed out in the "Main Objectives" that the large-scale production of high-strength and high-toughness automotive steel with a large import volume will be realized, and the domestic market share will reach more than 90%; the self-sufficiency rate of high-end varieties such as marine corrosion-resistant steel and low-temperature pressure vessel plates will reach 80%; the "Plan" proposes the upgrading direction of steel products mainly used in downstream industries, among which the high-strength, earthquake, fire-resistant and weather resistant steel plates used in the construction industry need to focus; focus on the development of high-strength, low-alloy medium-thick plates required by the machinery industry; focus on the development of high-quality germplasm corrosion-resistant ship plates for oil tankers, low-temperature pressure vessel plates for large liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport ships and high-strength ship plates; focus on the development of high-strength automobile girder plates of 700 MPa and above, high-strength automobile plates of 780 MPa to 1500 MPa, high-high-strength and ultra-strength cord steel of high-strength; focus on the development of high-strength, thin-gauge home appliance steel plates required by the location of the home appliance industry, and promote the use of passivation or fingerprint-resistant aluminum-zinc steel plates, hot-dip galvanized chromium-free passivation plates, chromium-free color-coated plates, electrical steel environmental protection coating plates and other green environmental protection materials.
From the perspective of the policy guidance and specific goals for the development of high-strength steel plates proposed in the "Plan", my country's high-strength steel plate market prospects are very broad in the next 5 years. According to the "Plan" on the "2015 Key Steel Variety Consumption Forecast", only the consumption of shipbuilding plates increased from 13 million tons in 2010 to 16 million tons in 2015. Steel plate for high-pressure vessels increased from 1 million tons in 2010 to 1.6 million tons in 2015. The consumption of cold-rolled and galvanized sheets for automobiles increased from 8.35 million tons in 2010 to 14 million tons in 2015. The increase in consumption is very obvious.
In order to meet the key steel varieties needed by the development of downstream industries and strategic emerging industries, the Plan puts forward the "key points of technological transformation" of the iron and steel industry during the 12th five-year Plan period, including high-strength and high-toughness automobile steel, high-strength mechanical steel, low-temperature pressure vessel plate, corrosion-resistant steel for shipbuilding industry, high-performance oil and gas transmission pipeline steel, high-strength mechanical steel, marine engineering steel, oil and gas storage tank steel, etc, are listed in it. And the nuclear island pressure vessel steel plate, oil ship high quality corrosion-resistant ship plate, high strength and high toughness automotive steel and other steel as the "12th Five-Year Plan" period of the steel industry's "technological innovation focus".
Industry analysts believe that with the rapid development of my country's low-carbon economy, the downstream steel industry has put forward new requirements for steel materials. Light weight, high strength, strong toughness, energy-saving and environmentally friendly steel is the future development trend of the steel industry. Therefore, the market prospects of high-strength steel plates are very broad, and the potential market is quite huge. In the shipbuilding industry, for example, in the marine steel, plate consumption is the largest, accounting for more than 85% of the total steel, the largest is 502TEU ship, accounting for about 97%. The amount of grade A plate in the steel plate accounts for more than 82% of the total amount of steel plate, while the 4700DWT multi-purpose ship accounts for about 94%. The amount of wide plates of 2.5m and above increases with the increase of ship size. The wide plate consumption of 16500m3LPG ship is 109.54 tons, accounting for about 2.13 of the total steel plate; The wide plate consumption of 5000DWT open bulk carrier is 2820.34 tons, accounting for about 32% of the total steel plate.
Shipbuilding industry related people put forward, from the shipbuilding industry development trend, an obvious feature of the demand for steel, high-strength steel plate demand continues to grow. Judging from the order structure of hand-held ships in my country at the end of 2010, among the ships delivered from 2011 to 2012, bulk carriers and containers accounted for more than 80%. At the same time, due to the implementation of new international standards and new specifications, ships that save energy and reduce emissions are welcome. This requires the hull to be light. The best way to achieve hull lightness is to use a large number of high-strength panels. Therefore, the demand for high-strength panels maintains a strong growth momentum.
